Jiří ŽOUŽELA

Jiří Žoužela was a Czechoslovak glass designer who specialized in designing pressed and cut lead glass.

From 1949 to 1952, he studied at the State Vocational Glassmaking School in Kamenický Šenov, focusing on glass engraving. He continued his education at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague (1952–1958), where he was a student of Professor Karel Štipl. After completing his studies, he became a designer at the national enterprise Poděbrady Glassworks in 1960, where he focused on designing pressed and cut lead glass.

For a short time in 1960, he also collaborated with the glassworks in Heřmanova Huť. His work was characterized by precise form and strong decorative elements.

Jiří Žoužela was among the artists whose works were showcased at prestigious international exhibitions. In 1959, his work was featured in an exhibition of Czechoslovak glass in Moscow, where internationally acclaimed pressed glass designs were presented. At this exhibition, his creations were displayed alongside the works of Josef Soukup, František Pečený (Heřmanova Huť), Miloš Filip (Rudolfova Huť), Václav Hanuš (Rosice), and other notable artists.
